May, 2013 will be dedicated to reviews of the films of the great Italian master, Mario Bava. We've seen a number of European films that we thought owed him a great debt, but we've never been familiar enough with his work to pinpoint why. This will give us a chance to examine what makes up his style and to see why he has been so influential on and so highly esteemed by other directors. We'll see how his work defined Gothic horror, launched the giallo, and led to the slasher. There will also be an effort to include some of his non-horror work. But not Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs. That's just too silly.
