Barbara Steele is a British-born actress whose role in Black Sunday established her in the minds of many as cinema's preeminent scream queen. She fell into acting by accident while painting sets for a stage production as an art school student. Steele was seen by a talent scout when she was thrown onstage as a replacement for a sick actress. Her huge, piercing eyes and mysterious beauty made her a reluctant horror icon.
Steele still acts, though infrequently. She moved into television production as her acting career wound down, and she has been involved with such surprising titles as Queer Eye and I Want to Work for Diddy.
